Getting started

Understand your role and available actions

Learn why navigation, ownership, review rights, and shared access differ between users.

Before you start

Who this is for: All workspace users.

  • Check which organization you are using.
  • Ask an organization administrator to confirm your assigned role if it is unclear.

Follow these steps

  1. Identify your working role

Owners and administrators manage the workspace. Compliance Managers run compliance work; Security Managers handle security responsibilities. Members generally contribute through assignments. The exact action remains subject to its permission and resource rules.

  2. Check ownership and assignment

Owning a control, policy, risk, asset, or task can permit specific work on that record. Those rights are narrow. For example, a task assignee can update status without gaining permission to reassign the task or change its due date.

  3. Separate contribution from approval

An upload or assignment does not automatically grant review authority. Evidence review can require an independent reviewer. Policy self-approval requires policy approval permission even when you own the policy. Risk ownership does not authorize accepting your own risk.

  4. Recognize scoped access

Auditors work within assigned frameworks and engagements. Read-only guests see explicitly shared resources through their guest experience. A missing page or record can be the expected result of those boundaries. Ask an administrator for the specific access needed to complete your task.

What you should see

You can explain which role, ownership, or scope is relevant to an action without assuming that record visibility grants every permission.

If something doesn’t look right

A colleague sees an action you do not

Compare organization, role, assignment, and record state. An administrator can verify the relevant permission.

You manage another client but cannot see this workspace

Provider relationships and memberships are granted explicitly per organization. Request access through the responsible administrator; another client's permissions do not transfer.
