Frameworks, controls & tests
Understand requirements, controls, and tests
Follow the relationships that connect framework obligations to implementation work and supporting evidence.
Before you start
Who this is for: Anyone reviewing compliance progress or contributing to a control.
- Open a framework or control in your organization.
- Your role must allow reading the related records.
Follow these steps
Start with a framework requirement
A framework organizes requirements. Open an active framework to understand what is in scope for the organization. The requirement describes what needs to be addressed; it is not the same record as a document uploaded to support it.
Inspect the implementation control
Open Controls and choose a relevant control. Read its description, implementation notes, owner, and status. A grouped organizational control can link to requirements from more than one framework. This lets you inspect shared implementation work without assuming that every requirement is identical.
Read the linked tests
Open the control's Tests section. Tests provide information about a control using their defined rule and source. Follow the test to see its current result, history, and data source. A missing source or stale result needs attention even when a control description is complete.
Review supporting documents
Check Documents and Evidence separately. A documentation requirement describes something needed; an evidence artifact is the supplied version. Submission, independent artifact approval, and acceptance against a requirement are distinct records. Inspect each state before reporting that the requirement is satisfied.
What you should see
You can trace a test or evidence artifact through its control and linked requirements to the framework it supports.
If something doesn’t look right
One control appears under several frameworks
Inspect Frameworks on the control. Shared mappings can be intentional; do not duplicate the implementation solely because it supports multiple requirements.
A passing test appears beside pending review
The operational result and evidence review track different decisions. Open the evidence or request to see what is still pending.
