Add and inspect assets
Record an asset's purpose and classification, then review its ownership and linked risk context.
Before you start
Who this is for: Users with asset-creation or asset-read permission.
- Check whether the asset already exists in the organization.
- Prepare a useful name, purpose, environment, and classification based on verified information.
Follow these steps
Create the asset record
Open Risk > Assets and open the form to add an asset. Enter the required Name and a useful Description. The basic form starts small; expand Advanced asset fields when you need the additional inventory and security information.
Record relevant attributes
Review Type, Environment, Criticality, and Data classification. Add source identifiers, purpose, data to be protected, owner or custodian text, and other available attributes when known. Leave unknown security capabilities unrecorded rather than treating them as verified yes or no.
Inspect the saved profile
Create the asset and open its detail. Check the profile, source-record ownership text, and accountable Owner separately. A name entered in a source owner field does not necessarily establish an assigned workspace membership or grant that person permissions.
Maintain its context
Review linked risks, controls, vendors, and evidence available on the detail. Open the relevant module to work on a linked record. For a profile correction, ask your administrator about the supported update path. If an import is appropriate, preview the mapped rows and duplicate-handling settings before applying any update.
What you should see
The asset exists with the intended inventory attributes, and its recorded ownership and relationships can be inspected.
If something doesn’t look right
The accountable owner is Unassigned despite owner text
Source owner text and a membership assignment are different fields. Ask an administrator to verify the intended assignment.
You cannot find an edit button
The asset detail primarily displays the record. Ask your administrator about the available update process. Avoid creating a replacement asset just to correct a field, because that can split its history and relationships.
The imported asset appears twice
Review source identifiers and the import job's duplicate strategy before making another import.
