Frameworks, controls & tests
Investigate a failed or stale test
Separate a control problem from missing source access, outdated data, or unfinished evidence review.
Before you start
Who this is for: Control and test owners, compliance operators, and connection administrators.
- Open the specific test in the correct organization.
- Use an account permitted to inspect its source and available remediation actions.
Follow these steps
Read the latest result
Open the test details and review the result, Instructions, Data source, and History. Note the latest run time and the rule that failed. Compare the affected population with the control's intended scope before deciding what needs correction.
Check the source condition
For integration-backed tests, inspect the connection health and recent activity. The test may be unable to execute because access or source health changed. For document tests, inspect the requested period, exact version, and whether the supply workflow is eligible.
Resolve the appropriate work
Correct the source system through its authorized owner, supply current evidence where offered, or use the available remediation task or evidence-request action. Check existing linked work before creating another task. A stale result should not be changed manually just to make the status look current.
Verify after the change
Run the test if a permitted run action is available, or allow the configured source workflow to produce a new result. Reopen History and check that a new result was recorded. Review any remaining evidence-approval message separately, and inspect the linked control health.
What you should see
You have identified the cause and can verify a new result or describe the specific dependency still preventing it.
If something doesn’t look right
No run action is available
The test may be ineligible, historical, or outside your run permission. Read the displayed explanation and involve its owner.
The source is healthy but the test still fails
Read the rule and the actual evaluated records. Healthy transport does not mean the underlying control condition passes.
The result did not change after an upload
Verify the exact request, period, and evidence attachment. Review the current test result and any pending independent review.
